Venzano is a meticulous restoration of a 12th-century monastery in central Tuscany, set on 25 lush acres amidst some of the most tranquil scenery anywhere.
The private residence will ultimately have seven beautifully renovated apartments, most with two bedrooms and two baths. From about 70sqm up to about 240sqm, each with a private garden.
What’s more, there’s:
An oversized swimming pool with a panoramic view of the spectacular countryside;
A large communal kitchen off the central courtyard for larger group meals, a tranquil, frescoed chapel and other common areas;
Expansive, renowned landscaped gardens.
Venzano is more than all of that. Scroll down to learn more...
360-degree views of rolling hills, sheep meadows, ancient trees and olive groves extend for miles. Our nearest neighbors are in the tiny hilltown of Mazzolla, just over two kilometers away.
In the renowned gardens, the array of native and exotic plantings enhance the natural beauty of the region. Grape arbors, ancient stone walls, row hedges and paths provide the structure of Venzano’s English-style gardens. Intimate paths and seating areas create separate garden rooms in the context of the expansive setting.
The site was deeded to the church in 1008 and functioned as an Augustinian monastery since the 12th century. The original 13th-century romanesque chapel with a fresco of St. Andrew has been preserved through the centuries.
Prior to Napoleon’s closing of the monastic order in 1811, Venzano was a farming community, growing fruit, olives, and the grapes that produced the sacramental wine for Volterra.
Since that time, Venzano has served as a local farmstead, and, until our acquisition of the property, had functioned as a renowned local nursery and garden center.

Designed by award-winning gardener Donald Leevers, Venzano's gardens cover more than an acre and incorporate traditional English garden design into the natural Tuscan landscape. The structure of the distinct garden rooms is softened by the profusion of spontaneous and loose cottage style beds.
Venzano's gardens are well-known throughout Tuscany and the gardening world. They've been the subject of numerous press reports, guidebooks, books on artists' gardens, and their own coffee table volume.
Venzano's gardens are in the process of being restored to their place as one of Italy's pre-eminent private gardens.
Venzano's renewal was undertaken by some friends who were seeking an enchanting retreat from the fast pace of city living. Venzano’s current owners live in New York, Sydney and Florence. We have all been captivated by the magic of Venzano.
After 900 years, Venzano was in need of some well deserved attention.
We're not done yet, but we're moving quickly towards completion.
